There’s not much that could bring a 7-foot-tall basketball player to tears — except for maybe a long-awaited reunion with his mother.
Norbertas Giga, a Lithuanian who moved to America five years ago to pursue his dream of playing college basketball, is the center for Jacksonville State.
While in Evansville, Indiana, last week, where the team was preparing for the Ohio Valley Conference tournament, his coaches called him into their office to review some game film. But shortly after he sat down, he was greeted by his mother — whom he hadn’t seen since he left home in 2013.
It turns out the coaching staff made all of the arrangements to bring his mother to the U.S. so that she could see her son and watch him play for the first time.
Giga was shocked and got emotional as he hugged his mom. (NCAA.com)
